06/05/2023 – 23/05/2023 Writing, Research and Reading

That should probably be Reading, Research and Writing… And Tools.

One of the issues I have been ignoring is that I no longer believe in the Indie publishing model I was working towards. Things change, and while I have been Not Writing, I have watched, listened and noticed that many indies are having trouble with Amazon one way or another – ditto the Twitter Thing and the Tick Toc Thing.

Like most folk who have been on this indie journey the number of years I have – and who have also yet to publish – I guess there is a sensation of watching those ahead drown under various work ideas or be annihilated by a change of an algorithm or have their accounts closed by a chatbot.

A comment I made on another writer’s FB page had her advice to start ‘wide’ – an idea I felt was too vast to contemplate, but she pointed me at Draft To Digital. At first, I ignored this, but my curiosity got the better of me, and sure enough, when I investigated, I found that it might well be possible to use that kind of business to launch with.

I was surprised how quickly my interest in getting on with the writing zoomed up 🙂 It remains true that until June 2023 when the ‘week after week’ of UK Bank Holidays and personal appointments for my husband at the dentist etc, I won’t be re-starting the piece I was working on for Camp Nano. I will be sowing the garden and doing a few jobs I won’t need to do when I want to write…

One of those jobs has been completed successfully  – I bit the bullet and had the battery replaced in this HP laptop, and I then extended that to also replacing the battery in the old ASUS. For under £100 I now have both laptops portable again and functioning much more usefully – somehow, the guys seem to have improved the ‘ghosts’ on the screen of the ASSUS too.

I am still reading and listening to Louise Penny’s series and Hilliary Clinton’s books.
