Just over halfway through the month as I start the first draft of this…
I haven’t given up either on writing non-fiction, re the goats and the farm or on the idea of Indie Publishing fiction; I thought I’d best say that upfront! Just don’t hold your breaths!!!!
Aside from the Luckshill Riders series that I was working on I have a pile of other ideas in various stages and new stuff that springs to mind from time to time too. It is true to say that the newer stuff is more historic or time shifty adventures and so, given all the things that we are all dealing with at the moment, I have ordered in a selection of pertinent books and Kindle books for a Research Library with fresh material in so that, if nothing else, I can sit and read with a purpose and the wide subject matter will benefit several of the ideas as well as the one specific one that I have in mind.
It isn’t that I have ‘gone off’ the contemporary fiction adventures but it is an issue that I started writing both Hacked and LHR 15 years ago and on many levels, I am struggling to keep them contemporary and COVID has put paid to that full stop. So they need to be fixed at a point in time just before COVID which isn’t so easy as it sounds or something I want to do that much right now.
Neither do I want to book an Editor given the vagaries of life at the moment time or money-wise.
So I am relinquishing the work and returning to research for future stories.
This isn’t a matter of encouraging Muse to turn up at 9 am every morning come what may it has everything to do with shifting client base for the main business and keeping OH out of public facilities when on the road – he gets priority – and because what I am doing with LHR I do best when on my own as I find rewriting is hard for me to complete if I am interrupted at short notice – because I am prioritising him and his health and safety that this has helped me to this decision.
Funnily enough, after all this time, I can write the first draft pretty much anywhere and with a fair amount of interruption, it is the rewrites and editing phase that I am hung up on as I can’t pay enough attention to detail or pick up a thought and rethought where I left off and it is no good comparing myself to those who love to rewrite and edit – it’s not about the emotion I feel it’s about concentration and doing the best job I can on it before handing it over and being able to take feedback and evaluate it against the big picture and then change something again and that takes a bandwidth and ability to envision changes and the butterfly effect of those changes that I just don’t have right now.
I am not giving up on LHR but as I sit here we have Plumbers hammering in two rooms trying to rectify an issue with our plumbing that has caused me a huge amount of interruption already this year.
Author Finds Map and has to Find The Plot to Reach the Treasure…
I found an A3 map and some scenes and characters and absolutely nothing as to the plot plans had been written down – or if it had it was lost so that was fun for a few days to help me shut out Plumbers!!!!
Non-fiction did get worked on…
