Four Months…

Lead Magnet story finished in the first draft.

This is probably best left as a list as every paragraph begins with I … And, I shan’t mind at all if it is skipped 🙂

  • I researched and bought a second-hand iMac and I invested in Scrivener 3 – this was planned – and fun – and I am really pleased as going forward I can do my edits on it and eventually buy Vellum.
  • I took a month to set husband up with a new LapTop ( The number 8 key didn’t work on the old one…) and get MTD ( Making Tax Digital ) Implemented in our other business for our VAT returns using Free Agent – DON’T ASK – it was CRAP. Like learning to play the piano for him… the small plus is that I have now set this up on the writing business account and have some idea how it works – though TBH I don’t think it will be OK  for what I need it is at least free for Nat West customers and I have a while before the business is in action…
  • I finished the first draft of the Lead Magnet story for the Luckshill Rider series. My hard drive failed on my Laptop two story days from The End so I finished it on an ancient NetBook – painful.
  • I had to immerse myself in  replacement Laptop  for me – unplanned and I had no idea and no desire for one but I had decided I wanted to start The Big Edit on May 1st and that gave me two weeks ( over a Bank Holiday) Long and short I ordered from Amazon and it didn’t get delivered on Easter Sat as promised and in fact didn’t turn up till nearly a week later – I paid the local shop to set it up for me – but that still meant a week of re-stuffing it with software at which point I realised that the new SSD couldn’t cope with me using DropBox and my all singing all dancing new expensive gadget was a waste of space. Don’t ask about re-stuffing Dragon…
  • I had to spend an extra £100 getting the Pro version of DropBox which now makes that over £300/year and with my internet speed opening a file I want to work on almost impossible and no storage of photos is possible on the new HP 250 either…
  • I decided that I needed to put off my start date for The Big Edit to June 1st – or the next weekday – Tue 4th I think…
  • I took the old Laptop into the repair shop and they fitted a new hard drive and set it up for me and I spent another week restuffing it.
  • The old Laptop then failed – again – loose connection and mercifully didn’t require another week of stuffing as I was losing the will to live.
  • At this point, I embraced a full-on digital fast. while I spent time with Flax.
  • Last week, having ridden out on Flax again after 5 years, I messaged Jane Badger ( THE pony book specialist Editor) and asked her if she had time to edit for me – she said, ‘yes… was July too late…’ ( This was not a carefully worded pitch this was a spur of moment – and I hid after sending the message as I had no plan b, not even choc…)
  • I have just about got the machinery and DropBox organised and only actually using it all together instead of arranging it with the right desktop objects d’art (two rocks and a pencil case) will see if it works. I have backed everything up to the external hard drives and Sam from Web Site Right had to fiddle with the Catchpa things on the sites.
  • The Editor’s draft revision starts next week with reading October Morning and then reading and redrafting In Plain Sight to send to Jane late summer. Onward…
